The name Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) comes from the Twi language of the Akan Tribe of Ghana. It means “Go back and get it”, reminding us that there is wisdom in our past that can guide our future. Represented by a mythical bird that looks backward while moving forward with an egg (a leaf in our case) in its beak, the symbol of Sankofa teaches us to honor our roots as we step into tomorrow.
